WHAT THEY’RE SAYING: DAVID MCCORMICK’S LIES CATCH UP TO HIM AT CAMPAIGN LAUNCH

PENNSYLVANIA: David McCormick can’t stop lying about where he lives and his record on abortion.

In the days before launching his Senate campaign, David McCormick tried to scrub his extreme abortion record from old campaign sites and even chartered a private plane to fly to Pennsylvania for public appearances to cover up the fact that he lives in Connecticut.

Here’s what voters are seeing and reading about Connecticut hedge fund executive David McCormick’s lies:

New York Magazine: David McCormick to Run for Senate in State He Sometimes Visits

  • “But the Associated Press reported last month that McCormick’s primary residence appears to be a $16 million mansion he rents in Connecticut’s Gold Coast.
  • […]
  • “On Thursday, Vanity Fair reported that McCormick has made frequent private-jet trips between Connecticut and Pennsylvania as recently as last month, including one instance where the candidate traveled from Bridgeport, Connecticut, to Pennsylvania’s Allegheny County to attend a Republican event.”

Politico: McCormick jumps into the Senate race — and confronts his ‘Welcome to Pennsylvania’ problem

  • But even then, McCormick appeared to open himself up to more Connecticut attacks. The same day he met with Mastriano, flight records show that a plane co-owned by McCormick flew from Bridgeport, Conn. to Harrisburg, Pa. at 8:28 a.m. and then back later that afternoon. Even in the days leading up to his launch, it seems McCormick was not based in the state.
  • “It’s hugely damaging — Pennsylvania is nothing more so than very parochial,” said Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon (D-Pa.). “People don’t stray too far from where they grew up. They raise their kids in the same neighborhood as their families and there are very deep roots.”

Cook Political Report: McCormick Makes It Official Against Casey in Pennsylvania

  • In a 2022 debate, amidst the leak and eventual Supreme Court ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that sent abortion regulations back to the states, McCormick said he only supported abortion “in the very rare instances there should be exceptions for the life of the mother,” omitting any carve outs for rape or incest. That position has been anathema to suburban women, and could make things difficult for McCormick in the growing, well-educated collar counties surrounding Philadelphia.

Vanity Fair: David McCormick Says He Lives in Pennsylvania. Flight Records Appear to Tell a Different Story

  • Through the marvel that is modern air travel, a candidate for public office is no longer confined to living in the state they hope to serve in. This relatively new phenomenon appears to be a godsend for David McCormick, a Republican who reportedly now lives in a Connecticut mansion but is poised to run for US Senate in Pennsylvania, where he appears to have chartered a number of private planes to promote his political bid.
  • Three days later, another PlaneSense plane flew from Allegheny County to Bridgeport, and McCormick proceeded to tear into Pittsburgh, the city he publicly claims as his place of residence. “It’s just devastating to see how our city has declined under the Democrats’ one party rule,” he wrote in a post later that day on X, the site formerly known as Twitter.

Associated Press: Republican David McCormick launches 2nd Senate bid in Pennsylvania, aims to oust Democrat Bob Casey

  • “He doesn’t even live here,” Democratic Lt. Gov. Austin Davis said at a news conference Thursday. “He’s a mega-millionaire who lives in a mansion on Connecticut’s Gold Coast.”
  • Democratic state Sen. Jay Costa, who represents the part of Pittsburgh where McCormick bought a house, said: “I know that he’s not there, because I work in that community day in and day out. … If you want to run for U.S. Senate, go to Connecticut and run for U.S. Senate in Connecticut, don’t come to be a carpetbagger here in Pennsylvania.”

Pennsylvania Capital-Star: Western Pa. Democrats ‘welcome’ McCormick

  • Lt. Gov. Austin Davis told a gathering at the United Steelworkers headquarters Downtown on Thursday that he had brought gifts to welcome likely GOP Senate candidate David McCormick to town.
  • As WESA-FM reported this week, McCormick made the comments about the Dobbs case to Fox News host Laura Ingraham in May 2022 (when it leaked early) calling the decision “a huge step forward and a huge victory for the protection of life,” according to an archived version of the show’s video.

  • Though born and raised in Pennsylvania, McCormick had lived in Connecticut for years, and it is still his primary residence.
