Trump, MAGA Republicans’ ACA Repeal Would Rip Away Health Care from Pennsylvania’s Communities of Color

Pennsylvania – As Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans continue threatening to dismantle the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and endanger the health protections of Pennsylvania’s communities of color are disproportionately at risk of having their health care ripped away.

“If Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans get their way and dismantle the ACA, communities of color across Pennsylvania could disproportionately have their health care ripped away. President Biden and Vice President Harris have increased access to affordable health care for Pennsylvania families by bolstering the ACA, lowering premiums, reducing the cost of prescription drugs for seniors on Medicare, capping the cost of insulin for Medicare recipients, and more — but this progress is all at stake in 2024,” Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chair Senator Sharif Street stated, “It’s far too dangerous to give Trump or any of the MAGA Republicans running for president another chance to destroy the ACA, which is why Pennsylvanians will reject their extreme agenda at the ballot box next November.”

Here’s what repealing the Affordable Care Act could mean for communities of color:

  • The uninsured rate plummeted among Black and Latino Americans as a result of the ACA, but millions of Americans who belong to communities of color could be at risk of losing their health care coverage if Trump and MAGA Republicans dismantle it, including:
  •  3.1 million Black Americans
  •  5.4 million Latinos
  •  1.3 million Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders
  •  488,000 American Indians and Alaska Natives
  • If repealed, the uninsured rate would spike for communities of color:
    • 20 percent of Black Americans
    • 30 percent of Latinos
    • 19 percent of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders
    • 24 percent of American Indian and Alaska Natives
  • The ACA has been lifesaving for working families, but Trump and Republicans are threatening to put the progress it has delivered at risk. The ACA has:
    • Insured more than 40 million Americans
    • Lowered costs for families
    • Prohibited insurance companies from refusing coverage because of preexisting conditions
    • Allowed young people under 26  to stay on their parents’ insurance plan
    • Ended lifetime caps on essential care a person can receive
    • Stopped women from having to pay more for coverage simply because of their gender
