DAVID MCCORMICK HEADS INTO 2024 WITH LOTS OF BAGGAGE FROM THIS YEAR

PA Dems Prepare to Ring in New Year Remembering The Biggest Stories About McCormick’s Campaign in 2023

PENNSYLVANIA — It’s been a year to forget for David McCormick who spent 2023 getting caught lying about living in Pennsylvania, covering up his record of selling out to China, and trying to erase his dangerous position on abortion. That’s not to mention his frequent blunders on the trail, questionable campaign finance violations, and his campaign’s involvement with  election deniers who tried to overturn the 2020 election.

Read Back Through The Biggest Stories From McCormick’s 2023:

Evidence McCormick Lives in Connecticut Continues to Mount

  • Associated Press: David McCormick is gearing up for a Senate run in Pennsylvania. But he lives in Connecticut
    • While McCormick does own a home in Pittsburgh, a review of public records, real estate listings and footage from recent interviews indicates he still lives on Connecticut’s “Gold Coast,” one of the densest concentrations of wealth in America. The former hedge fund CEO rents a $16 million mansion in Westport that features a 1,500-bottle wine cellar, an elevator and a “private waterfront resort” overlooking Long Island Sound.
  • Vanity Fair: David McCormick says he lives in Pennsylvania. Flight records appear to tell a different story.
    • Through the marvel that is modern air travel, a candidate for public office is no longer confined to living in the state they hope to serve in. This relatively new phenomenon appears to be a godsend for David McCormick, a Republican who reportedly now lives in a Connecticut mansion but is poised to run for US Senate in Pennsylvania, where he appears to have chartered a number of private planes to promote his political bid.
  • The Messenger: Can Dave McCormick go home again?
    • McCormick launched his campaign on September 21st. On the 22nd, he was in Erie […] On the same day, flight tracking data obtained by The Messenger showed a plane owned by PlaneSense departed from Erie around 2 p.m. and landed in Bridgeport an hour and twenty minutes later.
  • American Journal News: Likely PA Senate candidate Dave McCormick is still registering his cars in Connecticut
    • Wealthy Connecticut hedge fund executive Dave McCormick claimed to have moved to Pennsylvania in 2022 prior to running for the Republican Senate nomination. Now, as he reportedly prepares to launch a 2024 Senate campaign in the Keystone State, tax documents reveal he has continued to register two of his vehicles and pay taxes on them in Connecticut.

McCormick’s Long Record Selling Out to China and American Adversaries Was Exposed

  • CNN: McCormick wants the US to divest from China. As a hedge fund manager, he oversaw in Chinese companies
    • Under McCormick’s leadership from 2017 through 2021, Bridgewater Associates disclosed holdings in US exchange traded Chinese companies grew from $1.6 million in the second quarter of 2017 to $1.77 billion in the final quarter of 2021, according to filings to the US Securities and Exchange Commission reviewed by CNN’s KFile. […]That amounts to a 108,000% increase in Chinese holdings over a five-year period.
  • Huffington Post: A Saudi-linked businessman is the key to the GOP’s 2024 Senate plan
    • McCormick is the former CEO of Bridgewater Associates, an investment firm that works with sovereign wealth funds like the one maintained by Saudi Arabia. He reportedly pushed for Bridgewater to demonstrate loyalty to the Saudis amid international outrage over Saudi agents’ murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

McCormick Tried Scrubbing His Support for Dangerous Abortion Bans

  • WESA: As McCormick prepares new Senate campaign, abortion questions linger
    • When a draft of Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the ruling that overturned Roe, was leaked last spring, Pennsylvania Republicans were locked in a bitter seven-way primary fight to become the nominee to replace retiring U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey. McCormick told Fox News host Laura Ingraham two weeks before the primary that overturning Roe “would be a huge step forward and a huge victory for the protection of life.”
    • The 2022 McCormick campaign posted the interview on its YouTube account, where Democrats cited it as proof he was “committed to attacking reproductive freedoms if elected.” But since then, that account has had all its videos removed (though an archived version of his remarks to Ingraham still exists). The interview also doesn’t appear on a campaign Facebook page, though the page does include other interviews with Ingraham he did during that campaign.

McCormick is Running a Shady “Shadow Campaign” for Most of This Year

  • WESA: David McCormick’s PAC boosts Republicans…and his brand
    • When Dave McCormick established his Pennsylvania Rising political committee this spring, his stated goal was “to provide resources to strong Republicans running at the state and local level and to support efforts to increase participation in upcoming elections.” But a review of its operations adds weight to suspicions that it also may be an effort to help position McCormick’s own widely anticipated run for U.S. Senate next year — and maybe move a book or two along the way.
  • Daily Beast: Multi-millionaire Senate candidate pushes the bounds of election laws
    • While McCormick, who boasts a net worth in the hundreds of millions, likely won’t have trouble scrounging up the cash for his newly minted 2024 Senate bid, his financial maneuvering this time around has already drawn scrutiny among legal experts. And those experts told The Daily Beast that McCormick appears to be testing the limits of “testing the waters”—exploiting a loophole in campaign finance law to build out his operation while keeping those moves off the books.

McCormick’s Campaign Associated Itself with Election Deniers

  • Pennsylvania Capital-Star: Trump advisor charged in Georgia fake elector scheme worked on McCormick’s U.S. Senate bid
    • In the weeks before and after his loss in the 2022 race for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination, Dave McCormick’s campaign paid nearly $40,000 to a special assistant and political operative for former President Donald Trump.
    • Michael Roman, who reported to former White House counsel Don McGahn and served as Trump’s head poll watcher in 2020, is now accused with Trump and 17 others of a plot to overturn the results of Georgia’s presidential election.
